It was announced on May 30, 2014 that Ms. Jasper is one of the Final 30 for the 2014 Samuel French Off Off Broadway Short Play Festival for her 10-minute play “et•y•mol•o•gy”. The play will be presented during the festival Aug. 4-10 in New York City.

Here is Jena’s story. I have known Jena for many years and celebrate her strength and courage.
In 2009 I was diagnosed with two forms of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, an aggressive form and a slow growing form of this very common blood cancer. I had a large tumor burden throughout my torso and in the bone marrow, and was really scared. I went through 8 months of chemotherapy and a trial drug that was supposed to give me a very long remission. Instead, after three and a half years we discovered a few enlarged lymph nodes on my neck and armpit and I was diagnosed with a relapsed slow-growing form of follicular lymphoma. For the past 6 months I have been under the care of a naturopathic oncologist and have been receiving a twice-weekly alternative treatment of high-dose intravenous vitamin C therapy plus artemisinin, a malaria drug that has shown good results with cancer. Sadly and frustratingly, it is not covered by insurance—even though it is keeping me out of the astronomically expensive conventional chemotherapy!
I feel great and have high, but realistic hopes that I’ll keep it in check. There is no “cure” but there are great advancements in the understanding and treatment of this disease. I spend a lot of time getting my treatment, eating well, exercising, and practicing many of the healing arts and researching what to do next! It’s been a devastatingly sad few years with the deaths of our friends Heather, Andrea, Chris Welch and my best friend Mary—all from cancers. I am bound and determined to do my utmost to figure this shit out and live as long and as healthily as I can.
